Obviously this creates a cycle where we get less screentime developing characters in a way that makes sense and convoluted in universe retcons of plot from just one movie ago, or even from a prior trilogy, which is a huuuuuge no no for making a series (looking at you "somehow Palpatine has returned.") In the end, we end up with films that just feel like a waste of time. Then the filmmakers decided they needed to undo whatever character development happened in the prior movie and redo it in their movie, while building new characters. It set up a lot of plot points for many characters and got people excited for the following movies. This feels like the reason that The Force Awakens was probably the best movie. Every single character that was newly introduced basically had no clear direction of where their arc was going. Unfortunately the worst trend with the sequels. ||| Join our Discord! ||| Question?
